Is the D.A. Show on Mad Dog Sports Radio going to last?

Main Post:

As an unfortunate 2hr+ morning commute shleb, I consume sports talk radio.

So more than a year+ later in review, what is the verdict of The D.A. Show with Babchik? I agree with those who've stated elsewhere that D.A. and Morash (a.k.a. "Mraz") on Audacy were a better duo for their dynamic, specifically it was more organic. With the right support from management, they could have been huge for the average *radio* listener (not even sports anything fan). Shaun Morash is like a younger 21st century George Constanza but without being a fictional character from a 90s sitcom nor having to noticeably lean into the shtick. And he's a real and knowledgeable NYC sports fan. While both are likely far better compensated at their current stops, will we see D.A. & Babchik 3+ years from now? I hate to say it... but I'm kind of hoping the answer is 'no'.

My biggest reason for saying so is that aside from a few shows here and there, so much of the show's theme is DA's lead in, throwing to Babchik, commercial, DA rebuttal / follow up, throw to Babchik, commercial, Babchik story, DA & board op reactions, rinse and repeat. I get that you don't always get to make your work "unique" at every stop but I guess it does decent enough numbers or that there's still a year or two on DA's contract.

IMO Babchik's role equates to 'insert whacky anecdote' and most of the time it seems forced. It just does! Even the board ops know when it's time to hear a Babchik tale, set it up, or 'keep it going'. Now I understand Babchik has been a long fixture of SiriusXM in some way, and that what you see is what you get but it just seems more and more him leaning into that role for the sake of it. While D.A. is the consummate professional, I just can't imagine this same show existing 3 years from now.

I reluctantly (not a fan of their past business practices) subscribed to SiriusXM only because D.A. moved from Audacy. I have maybe listened to 3 months worth of shows and just can't consistently listen, at least not easily. I might go days without listening between shows and weeks later tune in without being able to discern it wasn't the exact same show.. it's Babchik frantically going on about having reheated hot dogs from the trash after wrestling an Iguana for them or something else without any real tie in to a sports lead in.

My intent is not to poopoo Babchik nor DA's work together just point out even since the beginning of their SiriusXM partnership it seems to have gone a bit 'flat'. I'll not deny The Mothership was/is a unique fixture for sports talk radio especially as it was successful at almost every stop. It's not that at SiriusXM. I mean hell those two still don't have an unedited photo together? That's what you do when one host is suddenly let go, photoshop them in.

End Rant. And for those who may not know.. now I do have a job, Damiennn!

Top Comment: Not the point of your post, but if your stuck in your car, the morning show on NBA radio is really good. Perfect mix of actual analysis and humor.

From the show: da bomb vs the last dab

Main Post:

How come it seems da bomb causes way more pain to the guests than the last dab. The last dab should be 20 times hotter (2M vs 100K) but somehow guests seem to survive it but suffer from da bomb

Top Comment:

Da bomb tastes like the inside of a cat’s asshole, on top of being spicy

The last dab is just spicy but it tastes pretty decent

Best movie/TV show Da vinci life?

Main Post:

Hello I'm a Leonardo da vinci huge fan and I would like to know more about his life. What is the best movie or TV show from his life that you recommend? I like to avoid documentary for now, bcz I know that this I will find easy, but you can recommend if you find useful. I'm surprised that no one big producer get into this since it's one of the greatest mind that ever exist.

Top Comment: The only one I can think of is DaVinci's Demons

Content Update: all 3 series of Da Ali G Show, the first 2 series of classic detective series Wycliffe and more arrive on BritBox UK

Main Post:

Another Thursday means another new slate of content for BritBox UK. Perhaps the biggest arrival today is Da Ali G Show. While specifically only the first series was advertised as incoming, we have in fact been treated to all 3, including the U.S. series. This is actually a rare occasion where BritBox can be commended for their efficiency and tidiness, as they have collected all 3 series together, whereas All4 has separated “Ali G in Da USAiii” into its own show. Of course, Ali G was a divisive character even at the time and the whole thing has probably aged even worse 20 years later but it was a cultural phenomenon at the turn of the millennium that feels right on a “best of British” streaming service. Here is the official synopsis:

Booyakasha! Sacha Baron Cohen is back with his wincingly funny comedy series starring three of his best characters Ali, Borat and Bruno. Watch them interrogate unsuspecting celebs, politicians and other poor souls with a barrage of absurd questions.

Switching from Channel 4 to ITV, we have another classic detective drama from the archive. Wycliffe is another one of those 90s shows that solidly churned out 5 series and a Christmas special during its run and earned a solid audience, but it never gained the kind of notoriety of a mega hit like Morse. The first 2 series of Wycliffe were made available today, for a total of 12 episodes. Once again, here is the official synopsis:

Detective Superintendent Wycliffe heads an investigating team of officers brought in to solve the most intriguing of murder cases on the magnificent and windswept Cornish coast in the far South-West of England.

And finally, here is everything else added today:

  • The City and the City (2018, BBC, 4 episodes)

Mind-bending crime thriller adapted from China Mieville's critically acclaimed novel. When Inspector Borlu investigates a murder in the city of Beszel, he finds a mysterious connection with the twin city, Ul Qoma and an old case.

  • The Politician's Wife (1995, Channel 4, 3 episodes)

A simmering tale of scandal and revenge. When MP's wife Flora Matlock discovers her husband's affair with a former escort girl, she wrestles with conflicting emotions. Should she play the dutiful wife? Or exact a just revenge?

  • Too Close (2021, ITV, 3 episodes)

Psychological crime drama that seethes with a chilling sense of dread. A forensic psychiatrist gets assigned to assess a woman accused of a heinous crime, but she claims she can't remember a thing. What is the truth?
